There are many templates in use in TaRapedia and these are only a subset, representing the most important and commonly used ones. If you feel that a template belongs on this page, do not hesitate to add it.
- Category:Templates should list all templates in the wiki, categorized into the various subcategories.
- The Template namespace always has all templates in the wiki, unsorted.
What are templates?[]
Wiki templates provide a means to insert the same content over and over in different (or the same) pages. This saves editors the hassle of duplicating the same text again and again, and also helps ensure consistency.
Templates are generally shown with the format required to use the template (i.e. {{stub}}
). Clicking the template name takes you to the template's page, where you can see what it looks like and how it is used.
Detailed instructions on the usage of each template should exist either on the template page, or the template's talk page.
Infobox templates[]
Most major article types have an infobox template. This lists the most important facts of the article in a standardized way. If you're familiar with the template you can include it directly (e.g. {{NPC}}), but if you haven't quite mastered it there are other options.
One alternative is to copy from a similar article, and the most important infoboxes also have template skeletons. For these you can use (e.g.) {{subst:NPC/new}} to create an empty template with all the parameters listed. That way you can just fill in the values you know.
- Enemy
- {{Enemy}}, for enemies
- Locations
- {{Loc}}, for planets, continents, zones, etc
- Logos
- {{Logos}} (very complex) or {{subst:Logos/new}}, for logos element articles
- Mission
- {{Mission}} or {{{{subst:Mission/new}}, for missions
- NPC
- {{NPC}} or {{{{subst:NPC/new}}, for (mostly friendly) NPCs
There's also {{Location}}, which creates a table header for location information. This is most commonly used on NPC articles, to give a more specific location than just their zone. The logos template automatically includes one as well.
Images and icons[]
There are many ways to link pages with icons, or just show game icons by themselves. The Icon templates show a small icon with a link, while the Image templates show just a larger image.
- {{Icon|<Icon-name>}}
- {{Icon|<Thrax Officer Head>}} gives Thrax Officer Head
- {{Icon/Logos|<Logos-name>}}
- {{Icon/Logos|<Power>}} gives Power
- {{Icon/Weapon|<Modifier>|<Damage type>|<Weapon type>}}
- {{Icon/Weapon|<Titan>|<Electric>|<Pistol>}} gives Titan Electric Pistol
- {{Icon/Armor|<Modifier>|<Armor type>|<Item type>|<Version>}}
- {{Icon/Armor|<Wellcare>|<Reflective Armor>|<Vest>|<2>}} gives Wellcare Reflective Armor Vest v2
- {{Image|<Icon-name>}}
- {{Image|<Thrax Officer Head>}} gives
- {{Image/Logos|<Logos-name>}}
- {{Image/Logos|<Power>}} gives
Emoticons[]
Use these little images to spruce up your discussion pages!
Basic utility templates[]
Game bugs[]
- {{subst:Bug|<description>}}
The bug template can be used to point out in-game bugs. It should not be used for wiki bugs!
Mark as historical[]
- {{Historical|<description of removal>}}
If an article has become completely obsolete, e.g. when a mission is removed, this template can be used to mark content that should still be kept for historical purposes.
Mark as outdated[]
- {{Old|<description of changes>}}
If an article has become outdated due to a new patch, this template can be used to point out that the article needs updating. Can also include a short description of the changes for temporary information.
Nominate for deletion[]
- {{subst:delete-now|<reason for deletion>}}
Add this to an article to nominate it for deletion. It will add the article to Category:Articles Flagged for Deletion.
Stubbing[]
- {{stub}}
When a page has little or no useful information, then it is likely a stub. This template will include them in Category:Stubs, and is used to list which articles need expanding.
T is for template[]
- {{t|<template-name>}}
This template allows you to show example template code (with a link to the templates) without using the template itself. It is used extensively on this page.
It is also useful as a shortcut for linking to a template, and demonstrating it is a template without using the full Template:Templatename link text.
More utility templates[]
Category header[]
- {{category head}}
Gives general categorising details. New categories should not happen "all the time", but when it does, this template should be added.
Clear[]
This template is used to reduce the amount of non-wikicode used on pages, replacing the code <br style="clear:both;" />
. Its use should generally be avoided. You can use {{clr}} instead of the HTML tag that clears space below things like images, pictures and tables, so the following stuff doesn't begin until the bottom of the image, picture or table box.
You can also use {{clrl}} or {{clrr}} to clear only left or right floats.
For[]
- {{for|<name>|<link>}}
Use at the top of articles as a simple "for x see y" template.
Main article[]
- {{main|<main article>}}
Use at the start of a section to link to the main article on it.
Right-aligned Table of Contents[]
- {{tocright}}
This template floats the table of contents (toc) on the right. It should only be used when absolutely necessary, to keep consistent design.
Unsigned comments[]
- {{Unsigned|<Username or IP>}}
If someone forgot to sign their comment on a talk page, you can use this template. Forging signatures is a no-no, so this template lets us know who it was without getting in trouble. )
User links[]
- {{User|<Username>}}
Creates a link to the user's user page, talk page and contributions list.
Welcome[]
- {{welcome|<your-name>|<~~~~>}}
A template to welcome new users with.
Wikipedia[]
- {{wikipedia}}, {{wikipedia-deleted}}
Wikipedia-related templates. Use {{wikipedia}} for articles taken directly from Wikipedia, and {{wikipedia-deleted}} for articles deleted from Wikipedia.
