The user's Last Name is the permanent structure of the user's account. Once a user chooses a Last Name for their first character, users cannot use any other Last Name for their other characters, no matter what. Even if all of the characters are deleted on the account, the user cannot change the last name that is associated with their account. The Last Name of the user is the Display Name of the user when on Chat, and is how the user is referenced in many commands, such as adding a user to their friends list. It is noted that other users can see the First Name of the account, however, this can only be viewed on the Display HUD when viewing the user directly, on the Friends list, or in the Party Status list.
NCSoft has not revealed any details about if any procedures will be put in place to have Last Names changed through Payment Processes or any other means.
