Critical Hit
From TaRapedia
In Tabula Rasa, a critical hit occurs randomly with a low % chance, modified by your Spirit stat. Critical hits can do a significant amount of additional damage (around 50% more to mobs but only 25% to other players during PvP, making a 5000 hit do 7500(6250 for PvP)) and can sometimes be the only thing between you and a quick death if you're lucky.
It is easy to see when a critical hit occurs in game. The damage text for a critical hit is much larger and glows white.
Increasing the chance of a critical hit can be done in several ways:
- Investing points in certain skills, such as Firearms, which at pump 5, give Rifle weapons an extra 10% chance of dealing a critical hit.
- Modification schematics can be applied to weapons. Typically, the chance is increased by 1% per modifier level. A notable exception is the "Big Bertha" machine gun which has a level 5 modifier increasing this chance by 25%.
- Each point spent in Spirit increases your critical hit chance by 0.065% (Taken from russian character builder may not be 100% accurate.)
Critical hits also have secondary effects based on the damage type.
-
Physical
- Triggers an armor-piercing DOT effect.
-
EMP
- Prevents the target's armor regen.
-
Laser
- Reduces the target's ranged damage by 10%.
- (Also known as "Crit Light" due to bad terminology use)
-
Sonic
- Knockback on the target
-
Electric
- Triggers Arc similar to Lightning.
-
Virulent
- Causes a fairly potent snare.
-
Fire
- Sets the target on fire, causing a DOT effect.
-
Ice
- Freezes the target, causing a stun effect.
If the last attack dealt to a mob is a crit, a red skull will appear over it's head and it can be melee attacked (default key: F) for double XP and extra adrenaline. This is known as an overkill. When correctly performed this will also deal additional damage to any remaining mobs close by with the damage type dealt to them corresponding to the damage type used to trigger the overkill.
